INLAYS & ONLAYS IN KATY, TX

Inlays and onlays are one method of repairing damaged tooth surfaces. An inlay is usually made of porcelain or resin and is used to fill deep grooves in a tooth’s chewing surface, protecting the tooth from decay and making it easier to clean. An onlay is similar to an inlay, but it extends over the cusp of the tooth for more secure coverage.

While other practices use potentially dangerous mercury-containing metals in their inlays and onlays, FLOSS Dental in Katy, TX is proud to be mercury-free. Our inlays and onlays are made of tooth-colored materials for a safer, natural-looking fit.

Benefits of Inlays and Onlays

  • Inlays and onlays work to strengthen a tooth that has been damaged or has a weak structure.
  • They’re natural-looking and virtually undetectable.
  • They last a long time with proper care and good hygiene.
  • They are a viable alternative to fillings or crowns depending on your situation.

Inlays and Onlays Procedure

Inlays and onlays both require two appointments, as the piece will need to be custom-made to fit your mouth. During your first appointment, your FLOSS Katy dentist will numb the area with a local anesthetic and remove any decay from the tooth. He or she will then take an impression of your mouth so that your inlay or onlay can be created, and you will receive a temporary filling until your next appointment.

At your second appointment, the temporary filling will be removed. Your dentist will then fit the custom-made inlay or onlay to your tooth.
